Bissaya Barreto Events Center - Coimbra (Bencanta)

The 8th Conference on Forest Fire Research will will take place in the outskirts of Coimbra, Central Portugal, in a modern Events Center from the Bissaya Barreto Foundation (http://www.auditoriobb.pt). The Bissaya Barreto Foundation is a Portuguese socio-cultural foundation, created in 1958 by Fernando Baeta Bissaya Barreto Rosa. He was an eminent professor of medicine at the University of Coimbra, a surgeon, humanist and philanthropist. One of the most accomplished personalities in the country, Bissaya Barreto marked the destiny of the city of Coimbra, through his vast and innovative social work, a major reference in the history of public assistance and social medicine in Portugal.


Coimbra holds a special place in the hearts of all the Portuguese, and, we are sure, many of you, the participants of this Conference. Rich in its history it is said to be the oldest seat of learning in Portugal with a University founded in 1290. This makes it one of the oldest in the world.
